Mascot Smackdown
Betfair is a revolutionary online betting service that allows the user to create the odds and bet against one another. To help promote the service during World Cup 2006, the viral game ‘Mascot Smackdown’ was developed.
The idea was to pit countries against each other in a ‘Street Fighter’ style beat’em up game. The main twist being that each country's hero is a relatively cumbersome mascot, possessing little dexterity and a relatively useless set of moves, amounting to a run’n’barge. Barging builds up to a special move and this is what you used to ‘Smackdown’ you opponent.
